CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Dickson County Cougars softball team traveled to Clarksville High School for the Region 7-4A semifinals on Monday night. The Cougars jumped out to an early lead and carried that momentum all the way to a 10-0 win in six innings, sending Dickson to the Region title game, and ending the Wildcats’ season.
The Cougars came out fast, jumping out to a two-run lead in the first thanks to RBIs from Sabrina Potter and Lyla Shaw. Coralee Grove added another Dickson run in the top of the second, before the Dickson offense finally had an empty inning in the third. They bounced back with three runs in the fourth, highlighted by a 2 RBI double from Potter and another RBI single from Shaw, and all of a sudden, the Wildcats faced a 6-0 deficit on their home field.

“Dickson did a great job of coming out and jumping on us early,” said Clarksville head coach Brian Rush. “Our girls are young; they haven’t been in this game before, and their experience on the other side showed through. Tonight, we had to make some tough plays, and were so close so many times.”

Meanwhile, in the circle, Grove was pitching a masterpiece, allowing only one Wildcat hit in a complete game shutout. The Cougars added four more for insurance in the fourth, with Shaw earning her third hit of the night in as many at-bats, and the Cougars will get a chance to defend their region title on Wednesday. As for the Wildcats, it’s still a season to remember, claiming the district crown for the first time since 2022. Looking forward, they will have every member of this Wildcat team back, with no seniors on their roster.
“They’ve been here now, and they know what it takes,” said Rush. “These girls have grown so much throughout the year, especially offensively. The message to them is that we need to have a singular focus as a program. That’s what it takes to get here and get further. We’re young, and we need to grow leaders in this program that will help this team grow even stronger.”
