CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Clarksville High senior three-sport athlete Dawson Smith has been awarded the Sonic Friday Night Rivals scholarship, FNR announced Friday at a pep rally honoring him. The scholarship is awarded to one student-athlete who competed in a Friday Night Rivals game in the fall. Smith was chosen from 32 nationwide nominees.

“I was overwhelmed and surprised. I really didn’t know what was going on,” said Smith. “It means everything to know that all of the hard work that I have put in has paid off. I couldn’t be more thankful to all my coaches, my teammates, and I’m giving all the Glory to God.”

Smith was a Clarksville Now All-Area selection in football, ending the season with 16 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks. He also totaled 84 tackles, while adding a forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, and one blocked kick to his production as well. Smith rushed for 200 yards on offense, too.

He is a starter on the Wildcats’ hardwood as well and was a pitcher for the Wildcats’ baseball team, earning a 1.84 ERA in 34 innings pitched with a 4-0 record, including starting the state championship game.

“Dawson’s a great kid and deserves this award,” said Clarksville High Athletic Director Shannon Cummings. “He not only works hard on the field, but is an exemplary student in the classroom, and works in our spirit store. He is a great example of all the great kids here at CHS, and we could not be more proud of him. It’s a big difference maker in his next steps.”
