CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Clarksville High’s boys golf team is set to compete on Monday, Oct. 2 as the Wildcats make their way to their 2023-24 region tournament.
CHS is coming off a district championship win where they won by a total of 5 shots, according to Clarksville High head coach Ken Busbee. Parker Elkins helped lead the way for the Wildcats after he was the only golfer in the tournament to shoot under par.
Busbee described Elkins as “the guy you want to have on your team no matter what the sport is.” He then complimented his competitive spirit, his hard work and his accomplishments throughout this season of play, which included shooting one over or better at 7 out of the 8 tournaments the Wildcats played in. Busbee then had this to say over the team’s district tournament victory:
“The District Championship was a great accomplishment,” Busbee said. “Even though everyone didn’t perform to their best, they did what they had to for the win. It also showed the guys that there are things they need to work on to improve their game.”
Busbee told Clarksville Now that his message for his players is it’s all about playing to their ability, doing the little things right, making the correct decisions and minimizing mistakes.
“We have played in great tournaments this year and I think it has helped us understand the competition level on the back 9. Golf is very mentally demanding. We look forward to Monday and doing what we can to advance to the next round,” Busbee said.
Clarksville High will look to defeat Dickson County and Henry County in hopes of winning the 2023 region tournament.
