CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – In a long meeting Thursday, August 1, the Clarksville City Council voted to extend the time for the developer of the Clarksville Marina to build a planned restaurant at Liberty Park. It’s the second time developer Darby Campbell has requested a delay in the contract for the project.
With the changes voted on Thursday, Campbell has until May 31 2014 to open the restaurant which is to be known as the Liberty Park Grill. Along with the restaurant, Campbell told council members he wants to expand the project to possibly include more commercial sites.
Councilman David Allen made a motion to cancel the lease which failed to pass the council and Councilman Bill Summers proposed that the developer should start paying rent on the property which also was voted down by the council.
The council approved $1.2 million to fund energy efficient LED street lighting. Some council members felt they needed to have more information about the project before voting in favor of it while others said the street lights were working fine and didn’t need replacing.
Mayor Kim McMillan said a vote for the ordinance was not an approval of the completed project but a chance for the city to learn more about the energy efficient street lights and the funding for the project.
In other action the council voted to for the new director of the Two Rivers Company to be made a city employee.
