CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – For the second year in a row, the CMCSS school board has chosen to deny American Classical Academy Montgomery’s application.

The Board voted 6-1 to reject the application, with only Aron Maberry voting yes.

ACAM previously applied in 2022, but the school board unanimously voted to reject their application.

Last week, a special called study session regarding ACAM’s application took place, where Elizabeth Vincent, CMCSS Director of Continuous Improvement, presented the recommendations of the Charter Review Committee to the School Board.

The committee focused on both the strengths and weaknesses of each of the three sections in the application, highlighting the pros and cons of ACAM’s capability as a school. In order for the committee to approve the application, all sections evaluated must either meet or exceed the standard.

Ultimately, ACAM did not meet the standard according to the committee and their application was recommended to the school board to be denied.

The public was also vocal in their opposition and support of the charter school and a previous school board meeting on April 11 gave concerned citizens a platform to raise their voices.

Correction: Aron Maberry’s name was misspelled in an earlier version of this article.
