CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Customers of Clarksville Department of Electricity (CDE) Lightband have recently voiced their concerns via social media about higher electric bills as several cold snaps have hit Clarksville and the surrounding area.

CDE posted information on its Facebook page Jan. 29 regarding rates and the process through which the company determines them.

The post states that CDE only bills customers for the amount of electricity that flows through an individual meter, which is read every month. CDE Lightband is one of 155 companies that purchases power from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and distributes that power to customers.

Currently, residential electric rates across the TVA area average between 9 and 10 cents per kilowatt, and CDE’s residential rate is 9.312 cents.
CDE said heating systems typically run longer in colder weather, and suggests customers lower thermostats by a few degrees to decrease costs.

Customers who feel their bill is still too high can contact CDE at 931-648-8151. “We have trained energy specialists to explain your usage individually and determine exactly why your bill is the amount it is,” the Facebook post said.
