CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Dr. Bridget Y. Childs has announced her candidacy for the Ward 9 seat on the Clarksville City Council.

Childs has been a resident of Clarksville for over 20 years. She is a mother, retired veteran of the 101st Airborne Division and public service volunteer. She was appointed as the Ethics Committee chair in June 2021 and resigned in August 2024 to pursue election as a member of the City Council.

She is a Silver Life member of the NAACP (Clarksville #5582) where she is the Fair Housing chair, former second vice president, and former Freedom Fund chair. She is a member of Champions Christian Community Church, where she serves as the Outreach director and advocates for voting, voting rights and the unhoused.

Childs said she has made it a commitment since an early age to serve the under-resourced, underserved, underrepresented, and most vulnerable populations in our country.

“I am running because I want to advocate for the community I live in and the people I serve with,” she said. “I served this country for 22 years; now I want to serve differently. Strong community relations – no matter where or how you live – are the foundation for positive outcomes, whether it’s picking up trash, serving a meal, or giving a hard no when it’s not beneficial to the people of Clarksville.”
