CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Austin Peay is expected to welcome over 1,800 new students to campus this August. Classes begin on Monday, August 26, and APSU is hosting several events to welcome freshmen.

Students will begin moving in Thursday, August 22. Once settled, they and their families are invited to an “I Survived Freshman Move-In” dinner at the Memorial Health Building, also known at the Red Barn. The event will be followed by a game and karaoke night.

Friday, August 23, freshman are required to attend Freshman Convocation. Dr. Alisa White, president of APSU, and others will address the students.

“Rock the Quad” Ice Cream Social and GreekFest will be held Friday at 7 p.m. This is a chance for new students to meet members of APSU’s Greek community. Afterward, there will be a ‘peaycake’ breakfast and trivia night at the Red Barn.

Saturday morning, August 24, freshmen are invited to participate in a community service project.

The “Monocle Madness” Carnival begins at 6 p.m. behind the library and will feature a wide array of rides and games.

On Sunday morning, students will have the opportunity to do sunrise yoga. Following, the campus will host an interdenominational worship to allow students to learn more about religious organizations on campus. In the afternoon, APSU will host the “Gov Run”, a 5k color run for students.

The last event planned before classes start is a Dive-In movie. Taking place at the Foy Fitness and Recreation Center pool, the Dive-in is a take on a drive-in movie, but instead of watching the movie in cars, students will be able to swim and lounge while watching the movie.

The week following, APSU will host a vendor fair. The fair is an on-campus event that is open to local community vendors to showcase their merchandise and products. The Vendor Fair attracts hundreds of students giving them the opportunity to check out what the Clarksville community has to offer. To sign-up as a vendor visit the Office of Student Life and Engagement online.
