CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The 6th annual Angels of the Battlefield ceremony was held last October 29 at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center.

The event honors past and present combat medics who have made a difference in the lives of those they have saved. It was also a time to honor Vietnam veteran combat medics’ 50th anniversary of the 101st deployment in 1964.

One of the testimonies given was for Doc Richard Brown, a Vietnam combat medic veteran who was killed in action trying to save wounded soldiers. “He was defiantly our angel out there,” fellow veteran Charlie Gant said.

Another testimony was for Doc Lovy, who was later was presented with an award that night. Doc Lovy saved the life of Sergeant John Cologne, who was presumed dead on the battlefield. Doc Lovy noticed a sign of life and proceeded to perform lifesaving actions on Sergeant Cologne.

Sergeant John Cologne was at the event to honor the man that saved his life.

Joe Alexander, who was giving the testimony for Doc Lovy said, “Doc Lovy is truly an angel of the battlefield and a great American.”

At the end of the night 16 combat medics were presented with awards highlighting their selflessness and outstanding work in their profession.
