FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) — The police chief in St. Louis County Missouri, says two officers shot during a protest outside the Ferguson police station last night have “serious” injuries, but have been conscious.

County Chief Jon Belmar says one officer, who’s with St. Louis County, was shot in the shoulder. Another officer who works for nearby Webster Groves, was shot in the face. Belmar says it’s not clear who fired the shots.

The shootings happened during demonstrations, hours after it was announced that Ferguson, Missouri Police Chief Thomas Jackson would be resigning, effective March 19, following last week’s scathing Justice Department report on Ferguson’s police department and court system.
