CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Locals gathered on Clarksville’s RiverWalk today for the annual Cardboard Boat Regatta. While 2020’s Riverfest celebrations have taken on quite a different look from years past, at least one of the event’s most cherished activities was able to take place.
Eleven teams lined the Cumberland River this year to see who would float to the finish line and who would sink in the most astounding possible way.
Each team was tasked with creating a boat out of only cardboard, duct tape, glue, sealant, and paint to compete in a race from the docks at McGregor Park to the finish line at the boat ramp.
Only one boat sank this year, the one helmed by Mayor Joe Pitts and his office’s team, though they were a shoo-in for the Titanic Award
Awards were as follows:
Ship Shape Award: Usain Boat
Cardboard Queen: Freedom
Team Unity Award: Front Line Heroes
Team Attire Award: Island Girls
Titanic Award: Frontline Heroese
