FRANKFORT, KY. – The public is invited to participate in the national Wreaths Across America ceremony at Kentucky’s four state veterans cemeteries on Saturday, December 13.
Wreaths Across America is a nonprofit organization that began more than 20 years ago when Worcester Wreath Company started placing wreaths on the headstones of fallen heroes at Arlington National Cemetery. Today, the tradition continues as the Civil Air Patrol, the Patriot Guard Riders and other civic organizations place wreaths during a special observance at state and national cemeteries, and at veterans’ monuments nationwide.
Donations from civic and veterans organizations and local businesses and individuals will provide a wreath to every headstone and each columbarium section at all four Kentucky state veterans cemeteries during ceremonies at the following times on Saturday, Dec. 13:
Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West (KVCW) in Hopkinsville will hold its Wreaths Across America Ceremony at 11 a.m. Central time. The ceremony will begin with a memorial service featuring guest speaker Lt. Col. Scott Kirkpatrick, commander, 2nd Battalion 506th Infantry. Following the memorial, all present may help place wreaths on veterans’ graves. Family members who wish to place wreaths on loved ones’ graves may do so at 10:30 a.m., before the service.
Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central (KVCC) in Radcliff will hold its Wreaths Across America Ceremony at 10 a.m. Eastern time.
Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North in Williamstown will hold its Wreaths Across America Ceremony at 10 a.m. Eastern time.
Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East in Greenup County will hold its Wreaths Across America Ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Eastern time.
