Ronald Lee Holcomb, Sr., age 76, of Clarksville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his immediate family on Thursday, November 6, 2014, at Skyline Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born July 30, 1938 in Lookout, WV, son of the late Ernest Sr. and Louise Holcomb. He joined the military in 1958 and was soon thereafter stationed in Germany, where he met and fell in love with his wife Ursula – his faithful companion of over 50 years. He served his country for 20 years, retiring as a Warrant Officer in the US Army, and later served in the Civil Service. Spending many years living and working overseas, he learned to respect and care for all people and to appreciate the freedoms we enjoy at home.
He was an accomplished guitarist passing his love of music on to his family and sharing his gift with others. Playing his guitar at home, in church, for elderly friends, and with his music buddies filled him with joy and contentment.
Ron had a deep faith in Jesus Christ, his Savior. As a member of Sango United Methodist Church for 19 years, he loved singing in the choir and supporting the church’s mission. His devotion extended to his family, which was the anchor of his life. His special joy was his time with his grandsons Kyle and Alec.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Ernest, Jr., Charles, Cecil, Arnold, and Forest; and sisters, Marshaline Buchanan, Ernestine Underwood, and Emma Jean Walker.
Survivors include his loving wife, Ursula Holcomb; son, Ronald Jr. (Crissy); daughter, Patricia (David) Gossman; grandsons, Kyle and Alec Holcomb; brother, Don (Shirley) Holcomb; sisters-in-law, Edeltraud Kidd, Wilda Holcomb, and Mildred Holcomb; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday, November 9 at the Chapel of Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home, with Bro. Willie Lyle officiating. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home. Ron will be laid to rest at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery – West, in Hopkinsville, KY.
Pallbearers will be Garfield Davidson, John Doubler, Steve Jones, Earl Roark, Terry Nicholson, and Frank Sullivan. Honorary pallbearers are Charles Henderson, Arthur “Doc” Richardson, and Stan Travis.
