CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Austin Peay Govs football team is enjoying a bye week after going a perfect 2-0 on their most recent road trip. The Govs took down the West Georgia Wolves and North Alabama Lions in consecutive weeks, and as a result, they continue to climb in the national rankings.
Last week, the first Division-I Football Championship Committee top 10 of the season was released, and the Govs were slotted at No. 9. The next committee rankings drop next week, and since the Govs don’t play this weekend, it will be interesting to see where they land.

Now, let’s take a look at where the Govs stand in the two major polls after improving to 7-2.
Where are Govs ranked now?
The AFCA Coaches Poll has the Govs at No. 8, up from No. 9 a week ago. The Stats Perform Media Poll agrees, as it also has the Govs at No. 8 from No. 9 the previous week. Notably, Tarleton State, who defeated the Govs earlier this month, are No. 1 in both polls.
Abilene Christian is the only other UAC team to make an appearance in the polls. The Wildcats are at No. 24 in both polls after they improved to 4-4 overall.

At No. 8, the Govs have gotten back to the ranking they had before the Tarleton State game. This is now the third time in program history (all in 2026) that the Govs have been a consensus top 10 team. The No. 8 ranking is also the highest ranking the Govs have had since 1979.
How high can Govs go?
The Govs have three games remaining, and they will likely be favored in all three. Two of the three games – Eastern Kentucky and Abilene Christian – are at home, while the third, Central Arkansas, is on the road. Eastern Kentucky is 3-5, while Central Arkansas is 2-6. Abilene is undefeated in UAC play, but they already have four total losses.
If the Govs win out, they will definitely end the regular season as a Top 5 team, which would be the team’s highest-ever ranking. Four of the teams ranked ahead of the Govs have two losses already, one has one loss, and two have no losses.
