CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – This season the Austin Peay men’s basketball team just did something the program hadn’t done since 2008.
Thanks to Central Arkansas losing at Florida Gulf Coast, the Govs clinched at least a share of the regular season ASUN title with their win over Jacksonville Saturday night. It’s the first regular season title for the Govs since moving to the ASUN conference.
However, the work is not done. Now, let’s dig into the previews for Austin Peay’s two games for this week.

Wednesday, Feb. 25: APSU vs. Central Arkansas
Central Arkansas is two games behind the Govs with two games to play. If the Govs lose both remaining games and the Bears win both remaining games, the teams will split the regular season title.
Thankfully, the Govs and Bears get to play each other on Wednesday night in Clarksville. This will be the first and only meeting between the conference’s top teams during the regular season. That game will also be the last home game of the season for the Govs.
Before last Saturday, the Bears were not only the hottest team in the conference, but one of the hottest in the country. Central Arkansas won 11 games in a row and cemented themselves at the top of the conference after starting ASUN play with a 2-2 record.
Entering this matchup, the Govs have a 15-1 conference record while the Bears are sitting at 13-3. Interestingly, all three of the Bears’ losses have come in overtime, showing just has competitive the team has been. Meanwhile, the only loss for the Govs came on the road at Lipscomb.
The outright championship isn’t the only thing up for grabs in this one. With a win, the Govs would also secure their fifth-ever undefeated home record. The Govs are 12-0 at home this season and the Bears 5-10 on the road.

Saturday, Feb. 28: APSU at Bellarmine
After Wednesday’s much-anticipated matchup, the Govs will head up the road to take on the Bellarmine Knights to wrap up the regular season on Saturday.
The Govs and Knights just played on Valentine’s Day in Clarksville, with the Govs earning a commanding 90-70 victory. Collin Parker had a big game for the Govs in the first matchup, scoring 22 points and grabbing seven rebounds.
The plan for this game likely depends on what happens Wednesday. If the Govs beat Central Arkansas, the title and No. 1 seed will be wrapped up, so head coach Corey Gipson could decide to rest some starters for the finale.
However, if the Govs fall on Wednesday, this game suddenly becomes very important. In the first meeting, Jack Karasinski scored 30 points for the Knights, so you have to imagine stopping the star will be the key for the Govs.
