CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Brian Zacharias, Clarksville mayor pro tem and City Council representative for Ward 1, has announced his candidacy for mayor.

An Army veteran, public school educator and public servant, Zacharias said his campaign will focus on smart growth, traffic and transportation, neighborhood connectivity, and keeping Clarksville livable and affordable for working families.

“Clarksville deserves leadership that listens and leads with integrity,” Zacharias said. ”Our city’s growth has been historic. We all feel it on our roads, in our schools, and in our neighborhoods. The real question now is whether we are going to keep reacting to growth, or finally get ahead of it. I’m running for mayor because I believe we can manage growth in a way that brings new jobs and welcomes new families, but still protects what makes Clarksville the connected community that it is today.”

As mayor pro tem, Zacharias has worked to strengthen collaboration between city departments, improve transparency and support policies that promote responsible growth, public safety and infrastructure investment, he said. He was selected to serve on a Smart Growth America leadership program focused on helping fast-growing communities improve the flow of traffic and connect neighborhoods.

Over his 22-year Army career, Zacharias spent 12 years assigned to Fort Campbell. He holds an Associate of Applied Science in Intelligence Operations and Arabic, a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, and a Master of Education in Secondary Education.

After retiring from the Army, Zacharias chose to continue serving his community as both a STEM teacher and elected official. His three children are graduates of the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System.
