CUNNINGHAM, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Waverly Lady Tigers traveled to Montgomery Central High School for a matchup with the Indians on Friday. A low-scoring game through three quarters saw the Tigers lead by five at the end of three quarters, but Waverly scored 16 in the fourth quarter to lift themselves over Central, 42-31.
The first six Indian points, and the only ones of the first quarter, were scored by junior forward Charlsie Reynolds. While shots weren’t falling much on either end, both defenses made points hard to come by. A three-pointer at the end of the half from Indians junior guard Kate Yarbrough tied the game at 13, but Tigers forward Jaylee Prince turned right around and made a three herself, giving the Tigers a slim 16-13 lead at the half.

“We made some adjustments that slowed them down defensively,” said Indians head coach Tony Amero. “Offensively, we are still trying to find our way, but we were aggressive. When we played them at their place, they blew us out, so to respond and play them as close as we did, that was big growth.”
The two teams went back and forth in the third quarter, setting up a dramatic finish. However, Waverly forward Harper Rhodes had other plans, scoring eight points in the fourth, ending the night leading all scorers with 15, to lift the Tigers to a double-digit win on the road.
“We have to mentally play 32 minutes,” said Amero. “We’re getting better at that, but there was about a four-minute span that made the difference tonight. What’s important is that we are still 0-0 in the district. It’s there in front of us; if we want it, we will take it.”
