CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The annual Emancipation Day celebration was held at Dixon Park on Saturday, bringing people together for an afternoon of music, food and more.
The event honored the day of Aug. 8, 1863, when Tennessee officially recognized President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation.
















The celebration included live performances by the Nate Jackson Band and members of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity as well as vendors, giveaways and special tributes to Black history and culture.
Mayor Joe Pitts was also recognized during the program for his ongoing support of the Emancipation Day celebration. Clarksville City Council member Wanda Smith expressed her appreciation for his efforts in helping bring people together to celebrate.
