CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The American Red Cross has opened a shelter to assist residents impacted by recent flooding and power outages in Clarksville. The shelter, located at the Clarksville Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1230 Northfield Drive, began offering support at 3 p.m. Sunday, providing a safe refuge for those in need.

Jonathon Taylor, Community Disaster Program Manager with the Tennessee Chapter of the Red Cross, has been on site at The Retreat at Concord apartment complex, which has been severely impacted by rising floodwaters.

“Quite a few of residents apartments are under water as the waterline is just under their windowsills,” Taylor told Clarksville Now. “Just looking at it, everything is under standing water so we don’t know what it looks like exactly from the inside, we can only make an assumption.”

Although the full extent of the damage is unknown, the Red Cross has been quick to mobilize, ensuring that residents have access to essential resources. “We are here to make sure everyone has a safe place to stay while the water recedes,” said Taylor. “We will stay as long as the community needs us, and we are thankful for the partnership with Seventh Day Adventist (Church).”

At the shelter, those affected by the flooding have access to warm meals, comfort kits, and other critical supplies. Jay Lovedusky with the Red Cross emphasized the shelter’s role in providing immediate relief.

“We had residents last night at the shelter and they are free to come and go, it is open to anyone who needs it. Our goal is to alleviate human suffering,” added Lovedusky.
