CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) –The Kirkwood High Lady Cobras hosted the Kenwood Knights for the final night of the regular season on Friday. The two teams were battling early, but a 15-1 run in the third quarter for the Cobras allowed them to pull away, and Kirkwood earned a 46-25 victory.

The two teams were physical defensively early on, and didn’t allow for any easy buckets. A few key three-point field goals from Cobras guard Mya Brooks, who led all scorers with 15 points, gave Kirkwood a one-point lead, 18-17, heading into the half. However, out of the break, Kirkwood went on a 15-1 run and never again gave up the lead.

“I thought we just a little sloppy in the first half,” said Kirkwood head coach Micah Rochester. “It was little things like turnovers, shots weren’t falling, but the second half might be the best half of basketball we’ve played all year.”

Despite a few buckets from Sy’Nya Seay, who led the Knights with nine points, Kenwood was unable to overcome the deficit, and the Cobras earned a win on the final night of the regular season. Next up for the Lady Knights is the district 14-4A play in game against cross-town foe West Creek High on Tuesday, in a win or go home matchup.

“It was a rough one, we’ve been playing really good basketball as of late, but that second half wasn’t our best,” said Kenwood head coach Jemiah Harrison. “We play West Creek on Tuesday, and both of us want to beat each other, that’s no secret. We have to come ready to play, and we want to stay in the postseason.”

As for Kirkwood, thanks to winning the coin toss against Springfield and earning the three seed, they avoid the play-in game and will face Rossview Thursday night in the district 13-4A semifinals.

“We took care of the basketball, found open shooters, and played good basketball,” said Rochester. “This is exactly the way we want to be playing going into the tournament, playing our best basketball at this point in the season.”
