CLARKSVILLE, TN − In a display of solidarity and support for domestic violence survivors, four iconic Clarksville landmarks – the bridge over the Cumberland River, F&M Bank Arena, Custom House Museum, and the Historic Courthouse – lit up purple on the evening of Oct. 5. This initiative is part of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about the issue of domestic violence and encourage support for survivors in our community.

Domestic violence affects millions of people every year. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV), 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men will experience severe intimate partner violence in their lifetime. This awareness campaign aims to shed light on the ongoing challenges survivors face and to encourage everyone to take a stand against abuse.

Clarksville Area Urban Ministries emphasizes the importance of creating awareness: “Domestic violence thrives in silence, and it’s crucial for communities to come together, show support, and raise awareness. By lighting up these landmarks in purple, we remind survivors that they are not alone and encourage others to be proactive in supporting them.”

Clarksville Area Urban Ministries operates a domestic violence SafeHouse, providing emergency shelter, resources, and support for individuals escaping abusive situations.
