CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Kenwood High Knights made a trip across the river to Montgomery Central High School to face the Indians in the second week of football preseason scrimmages. The game was physical in the trenches, and both teams impressed with only fourteen days until week one of the 2024-25 season.

Kenwood High came out the gates strong with a 40-yard run on the first play from scrimmage. Meanwhile, it would be the Knights starting quarterback Jacoby Cox that connected with Jayde Davis on a long pass to open up the scoring during the contest. Kenwood head coach Jarhett Snead was impressed with his squad but knows there’s a lot they can do to improve.

“For us to be successful, all 11 have to do their job,” Snead told Clarksville Now. “We did some great things tonight, I just want to see more consistency, every single snap, and every single play.”

As for Central, their physical downhill rushing attack was effective with the Indians being able to move the chains consistently. For the first couple of drives, they couldn’t find pay dirt, but the Indians were finally able to get into the endzone on a jet sweep call. Montgomery Central head coach Wyatt Page loved the way his players competed throughout the scrimmage.

“You’re not going to be perfect every time, but they went out there and were physical,” Page said. “We had a couple lapses, and we left points on the board, but those are things we are going to fix, and we got some really good film from tonight.”

Both teams will now turn their attention to the last week of scrimmages before week one of the high school football regular season on Friday, August 23. Both coaches know at this point in the year, it’s go time.

“The time for mistakes is over,” Snead said. “From now on, every rep matters, because our schedule is a gauntlet.”

“Our standard and our process won’t change,” Page said. “Every game we play is going to be won or lost, but we won’t change what we do.”
