CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Softball in Montgomery County this year was electric to say the least. Split into several districts, it was a very competitive year, which included the introduction of new high school team in the mix. It’s now time to honor players representing Montgomery County schools with the 2024 Clarksville Now All-Area Softball Team and Player of the Year.
There’s a wide variety of talented individuals who make up each high school team, but these players separated themselves from the rest. All statistics were contributed by Clarksville-area coaches.
Charis Nichols: Senior, Clarksville High – The CHS Wildcats relied on Nichols to be their ace in big time games throughout 2023-24, and Nichols delivered. The Vol-State signee pitched a whopping 107 innings, earning a 2.49 ERA and amassing 84 strikeouts. Not only that, but Nichols was a solid offensive bat with a batting average of .352, 29 RBIS on 31 hits, along with a .440 on-base percentage.
Carlie Sheets: Senior, Clarksville High – Meanwhile, the King University signee was another offensive weapon for the Wildcats this past season. The first baseman batted .410 with a .540 on-base percentage. She also amassed 45 RBIs on 41 hits, while collecting 6 home runs.
Abby Khamphengphet: Senior, Montgomery Central – The Indians middle infielder was consistent all year for her squad in 2023-24. Khamphengphet held a batting average of .447 with a 1.217 OPS. She also totaled 21 hits and 17 RBIs, along with 2 home runs.
Taila Brandt: Senior, West Creek High – The catcher for the Coyotes got it done offensively, earning a .409 batting average with a .500 on-base percentage. In addition, the senior tallied 17 RBI’s, along with 4 home runs.
Aniya Sims: Junior, West Creek High – The Coyotes shortstop was another force at the plate for West Creek High. She compiled a .354 average with a .508 on-base percentage. Along with her consistency at the plate, Sims also scored 19 runs and stole 14 bases.
Maddie Ratcliff: Junior, Kirkwood High – Ratcliff’s two-way prowess helped lead the Cobras to success in their first year of existence. At the plate, the junior earned a .475 average with a .542 on-base percentage, while tallying 23 RBIs. On the mound, Ratcliff pitched 61.0 innings and struck out 64 batters.
Kennedy Scott: Junior, Rossview High – Scott was a crucial piece in Rossview High’s postseason success. At the plate, Scott had a batting average of .400 and an on-base percentage of .465. She also tallied 36 hits and 9 home runs on the year.
Madelyn Fillers: Junior, Rossview High – Fillers was a consistent two-way force for the Hawks in 2023-24. At the plate, Fillers collected 40 hits, 5 home runs, a batting average of .455 and a .520 on-base percentage. On the mound, Fillers had an 8-4 record, an ERA of 2.44 ERA and she struck out 54 batters.
Kinglsey Bell: Sophomore, Clarksville Academy – Bell showcased her offensive consistency throughout the season this past year, which included a batting average of .404. She also got it done of the mound, pitching 89 innings and recording 47 strikeouts.
Alexa Bertelsmann: Sophomore, Clarksville Academy – Another player that shined for the Cougars during the 2024 season was Bertelsmann. The sophomore earned a .387 average and a .667 slugging percentage, while tallying 27 RBIs.
McKenzie Quick: Sophomore, Rossview High- Quick’s offensive firepower was crucial in the Hawks district championship run. The sophomore earned a .471 batting average, 40 hits, along with an on-base percentage of .531.

Clarksville Now Player of the Year
Player of the Year: Aree Collins: Senior, Clarksville High – The shortstop and pitcher was a two-way force for Clarksville High in 2023-24. The Tennessee State signee earned a batting average of .429, collected 33 RBIs on 39 hits, along with 7 home runs and an on-base percentage of .609. As for her production on defense, Collins pitched 41 innings, amassing a 6-2 record, with a 1.70 ERA. She also struck out 57 batters.
Offensive Player of the Year: Addison Beech: Senior, Montgomery Central – Beech was an offensive spark plug in all aspects for the Indians. The Walters State signee earned a .606 average, tallying 43 hits, scoring 32 runs and she stole 19 bases. Beech went on a 23-game hit streak this past season, dating back to the 2022-23 season.
Pitcher of the year: Avery Rauscher: Junior, Rossview High – As the Hawks ace, Rauscher delivered in several key games, including getting hot at just the right time to lift the Hawks to a district championship. The junior compiled 100.2 innings pitched, while earning a 1.80 ERA. Rauscher only allowed a .135 batting average against and struck out 175 batters.
Freshman of the year: Ava Ahern: Freshman, Clarksville High – Ahern was both a versatile fielder, as well as a consistent hitter for the Wildcats. The freshman earned a .355 average with a .456 on-base percentage. She also totaled 22 RBIs, along with 4 home runs in 2023-24.
