CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Two homeless men were arrested for severely beating another homeless man near the Red River Bridge at the corner of College St. and Wilma Rudolph Blvd. Monday night.

According to a police report, the victim told police that as he was walking back to his homeless camp beneath the bridge, Bradley Ash, 40, struck him in the back of the head with a large stick. As he fell to the ground, Ash continued to attempt to strike him.

The second suspect, 40-year-old Leo Duncan, told the victim not to resist or fight back as he held him down while Ash repeatedly hit him in the face with a large rock, according the report.

After the assault, the victim woke up a friend and called for an ambulance. When EMS arrived, the victim had lacerations on the back of his head and face, as well as a potentially broken arm. He was transported to Gateway Medical Center by EMS.

Officers searched the homeless camp and took both Ash and Duncan into custody. Ash initially denied the assault occurred, but later said he was involved in a verbal confrontation with the victim and only slapped him in the face. Duncan declined to comment.

Police detected dried blood on both suspects and throughout the camp area.

Ash and Duncan were both charged with aggravated assault and booked into the Montgomery County Jail. Ash’s bond was set at $20,000 and Duncan’s at $10,000.
