CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – After losing their first game of the season to Western Illinois, the Austin Peay baseball team is currently riding a 3-game winning streak with their latest win coming on the road against Mississippi State. They won by a score of 3-2, according to Austin Peay Athletics.

The Governors offensive production was kickstarted during the first inning of action when Clayton Gray and Lyle Miller-Green both singled to open up the game. Cleanup batter and shortstop Jon Jon Gazdar then came to the plate with two on and one out. The junior shortstop proceeded to single to left field, which allowed Miller-Green to advance to second and Gray to score.

Austin Peay added to their run total in the third inning following Gazdar hitting a two-run homerun during his second at-bat of the day. From this point forward, the Governors did not score another run during the game; however, it didn’t matter in the end.

Austin Peay’s pitching rotation kept Mississippi State batters in check throughout the matchup. Miller-Green started for the Govs on the mound and was electric through five innings of work. In total, he only allowed 2 earned runs, 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out 3 batters.

The Governors turned to their bullpen in the sixth inning, and shutout the Bulldogs for the remainder of the game to win 3-2.
