CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Bernard Carter Jr. has announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination to the Clarksville-Montgomery County School Board, District 6.

Carter was born in New York City and retired from the Army after 30 years of military service. He’s been a resident of Clarksville for over 20 years and is a dedicated member of a church in the Clarksville area. Carter holds a B.S. Degree in Business Administration from Trident University International.

He and his wife have two children, graduates of Rossview High School and Fort Campbell High School, and one of them is a Clarksville-Montgomery County School System teacher. He also has a grandson who attends a Clarksville-Montgomery County school.

“Education has always been very important in my household,” Carter said. “I strongly believe that in order for a school system to strive, students, educators and staff must share a sense of safety, and, if elected, security will be my No. 1 priority. I also want to ensure our educators are receiving a fair and competitive salary as a result we can keep quality teachers and administrators in place. Finally, I want to encourage community involvement; we have to be active listeners and understand how our decisions impact students, staff, families and our entire community.

“I want to serve on the School Board because I have a passion for helping children and supporting public school education. I want to be an advocate for parents, educators, students and public education in Clarksville. I’m committed to the success and empowerment of students, educators and administrators,” Carter said.
