CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Northwest High wide receiver Deonta Crawford has been named Clarksville Now Player of the Week after scoring three reception touchdowns. Crawford has been a playmaker for the Vikings throughout the 2023-24 season, and last Friday was no exception.
Northwest High football traveled to Dickson County on Oct. 27, which was each team’s regular season finale. The Vikings moved the ball with ease against the Cougars, and that led to the Clarksville-area team scoring a season-high in points scored (29).
Dickson County had no answer for Crawford in the red zone, and the senior wide receiver scored 62% of the team’s total points. In addition to his three touchdowns, Crawford added a total of 4 receptions and 45 receiving yards to his total offensive stats.
Crawford told Clarksville Now his play came down to trust and execution of the game plan, and he credited his offensive line as well as his chemistry with his quarterback.
In the end, however, Dickson County was able to outscore Northwest High and won the game 43-29. The loss marked the Vikings last game of the 2023 season, as well as Crawford’s final game of his high school career.
Crawford finished his senior season with the following defensive stats: 71 total tackles, 9 tackles for a loss, 1 quarterback hurry, 6 passes deflected, 1 interception, 6 fumble recoveries and 3 forced fumbles.
Coaches corner
“Deonta is special because of his football knowledge to start off with,” according to Northwest head coach Reynaldo Pena. “He always understands what’s going on. When he studies the game, he can call out exactly what you’re going to do before the play happens. His drive is also special, he’s all over the field.
“He wants to be the guy that makes the play for his teammates, and it’s going to be so difficult to replace a guy with that much football intellect, knowledge and determination to get all over the field.”
