CLARKSVILLE, TN – Tennessee Legislative Democrats, a joint effort of the Senate and House Democratic caucuses and the TNDP, has hired a new director who will focus on campaign coordination and holding the supermajority accountable.
Charles Uffelman of Clarksville will serve as the Political Director of the Tennessee Legislative Democratic Caucus. The Tennessee native previously served as training director for the civil rights group Organize Tennessee and has a decade of experience working in Democratic campaigns. Uffelman managed the successful campaign of state Rep. Ronnie Glynn in 2022
and has worked on presidential, U.S. senate, gubernatorial and legislative campaigns in Tennessee, Iowa, Kentucky and Wisconsin.
Senate Democratic Caucus Chairwoman Sen. London Lamar: “We are fresh out of a failed special session that Republicans adjourned with no new reforms to stop gun violence. From
gun violence to health care to boosting wages, Tennesseans are sick and tired of their do-nothing leadership on the issues that matter to our families. To fix this situation and start delivering results, we have to flip seats in both chambers — and that’s exactly why we’re making this hire earlier than we’ve done in years past.”
House Democratic Caucus Chairman Rep. John Ray Clemmons: “I hear from folks all across Tennessee asking how they can help break this extreme Republican supermajority. I tell them to roll up their sleeves and put their work boots on, because, in addition to raising significant sums of money, winning campaigns requires hard work on the ground to organize and mobilize. Charles will play a vital role in helping us pull all this together for the benefit of our candidates.”
Raised on a cattle farm in Erin, Tennessee, and a graduate of the University of Memphis, Uffelman has deep connections to both rural communities and large cities across the state. He settled in Clarksville to help organize the blue-shifting suburban Montgomery County. “I’ve been meeting with potential candidates, county party leaders and strategists all over this state and it’s clear: Tennesseans are ready for change. I’m going to be supporting the brave citizens who stand up and make that change possible,” said Uffelman.
