CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A man was arrested Friday, May 9 around 10:30 p.m. after assaulting a woman and fighting a police officer.

According to a report from the Clarksville Police Department (CPD), the officer responded to an aggravated assault call on Cunningham Lane when he noticed the suspect, 29-year-old Nathaniel K. Morris, grab a woman and drag her across the street by her arm and her hair.

The woman was seen kicking and struggling and the officer turned on his blue lights, approached Morris and told him to let the woman go. Morris fled on foot toward Lafayette Rd. around a house, jumped a fence, and was cornered by the officer behind a house on Breckinridge Rd.

The officer ordered Morris to get on the ground, and when he didn’t comply the officer grabbed his arm, tripped him, and got on top of him. During the struggle, Morris attempted to push the officer off, at which point the officer stunned him in the side with a taser. Morris slipped from the taser and began to run again. The officer stunned him in the back, but to no effect.

As the officer came around the corner Morris has his fists up, and the officer sprayed him in the face with pepper spray and took him to the ground. As the two wrestled, Morris began choking the officer with one hand and reached for the officer’s gun. The officer stunned him two more times before the effects of the pepper spray subdued him.

Two more officers arrived on the scene to assist in the arrest. The female victim had fled the area before they arrived.

Police discovered previous warrants on file from Hopkinsville, Ky. for assault in the first degree on a police officer, among other charges. Morris was booked into the Montgomery County Jail and charged with Criminal Impersonation, Evading Arrest, Aggravated Assault, and Fugitive Wanted by Another State. His bond was set at $290,500.
