CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The National Weather Service (NWS) is calling for snow Thursday night with temperatures dropping into the teens and single digits.

The NWS said that very cold temperatures are expected beginning Thursday night, with dangerous and potentially life-threatening wind chill values Friday morning. Temperatures will likely stay below freezing until midday Monday.

Winter weather coming

“Once we get to Thursday night, we’re going to have an arctic cold front move through, and temperatures are going to tumble,” said John Cohen, a meteorologist with the NWS in Nashville.

Cohen said temperatures Friday morning will hang around 10 degrees and will fall back down to about 6 degrees Friday night. Snow is also expected.

“We do have a chance for a little bit of snow. The primary storm system is going to be tracking well to the north of us, but we could see perhaps up to one inch of snowfall in the Clarksville area during the day on Friday.”

Dr. Ihab Habib, director of the Clarksville Street Department, told Clarksville Now that street crews are prepared and equipped to handle the coming weather.

“We have all our trucks ready,” he said. “We have loads of salt that we will be able to use to clear all the roads. We’ve been planning for this.”

The city said they have 50 employees devoted to clearing city streets, using 30 salt box trucks: 24 12-ton trucks and six 4-ton trucks.
