On December 13, 2022, surrounded by her family, Janice Hardin Magnuson passed into an eternity with the Savior she served faithfully her entire life.
A resident of Clarksville, Tennessee, Janice was born in Robertson County on November 20, 1953, to the late Mary Lee McDuffie Hardin Williams and the late William Douglas Hardin. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Gilford Hardin and Janette Hardin, her maternal grandparents, Lucy Bell McDuffie and Charles Burton McDuffie, and her stepfather, J.B. Williams.
She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Daniel Magnuson, her daughter-in-law, Kelly Jo Magnuson, step-grandchildren Dylan Rush and Kerrington Rush, her brother, William Wayne Hardin (Carlette), her sister, Joan Hardin Fulton (Frankie), two nieces, a nephew, and several great/grand nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind a community of friends and former students whom she loved dearly and loved her in return. A Celebration of Life service is to be held at 2:00 p.m. on December 31, 2022, at Grace Church of the Nazarene in Clarksville, with Pastor Joe Voight officiating. Visitation will take place on the same day at the church from noon to 2:00 p.m. There are no graveside services following the service, as her remains will be cremated and interred in a private service at a later date in the Hardin family plot at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Robertson County.
Janice was a graduate of East Robertson High School in Cross Plains, Tennessee, and received Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Austin Peay State University. Her life was a full one,
defined by three elements: her faith, her family, and her music, and she experienced the joy of combining all three. A gifted pianist, she taught music privately as well as in an educational
setting for much of her adult life. She served as the pianist for several churches as well as for the Chaplain’s services at Fort Campbell, the latter of which often required her to play for
congregations of different faiths and denominations several times a week. She also was sought after for weddings, funerals, and musical programs of all types. Janice was very active in various faith-based activities, and one of her great joys was teaching a Precepts class where, as with her piano teaching, her students became lifelong friends and cherished her for what she was and what she lived as well as what she taught them.
Janice lived in Clarksville most of her adult life, but she also lived for several years in Germany, where she was a military wife and where her beloved son Jeff was born. She remained close
friends with many of those she met while she was overseas. Janice took great joy in her family, with Kelly being as close to her as a daughter. She loved Dylan and Kerrington with an
embracing heart and took pride in their achievements and their growth into mature Christian adults. She loved her siblings and their families and knew a peace at having them close to her and involved in her care during the last days of her life.
The family would like to thank all those who attended to Janice, provided health and hospice care, and reached out in friendship and concern during her final days. A special thanks goes to
Kelly, who was Janice’s primary caregiver and simply always there when Janice needed her.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation may do so to Grace Church of the Nazarene or St. Jude’s Hospital.
