CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Clarksville High running back Jamar Carnell is the new Clarksville Now Player of the Week for his role in helping the Wildcats secure the Warfield Shield with a 35-10 win against Rossview.
The running back scored Clarksville High’s first 3 touchdowns on the night before exiting with an injury.
Nevertheless, Carnell finished the game with 21 carries, 137 rushing yards, 3 rushing touchdowns and 1 reception for 16 receiving yards. Carnell also plays middle linebacker for the Wildcats, and he tallied 6 tackles during the matchup.
“Our victory against Rossview meant a lot,” said Carnell. “We knew we had to go out and win, so we could hold onto the Warfield Shield. As a team we know what the shield means to everyone at our school, which led to us having a different mindset than the previous weeks. As for my performance, it came from the offensive line and trusting my coaches. I owe it to them for what I achieved.”
2022-23 season
As for his senior season, the 2022-23 campaign means just as much to Carnell. The senior said their unit needs to be more prepared for games, finish the season strong and continue to fight for a chance to win a state championship.
Throughout the season, Carnell has served as Clarksville High’s bell cow. The running back has totaled 48 carries for 294 rushing yards and 3 rushing touchdowns. That adds up to Carnell averaging 98 rushing yards per game, and 6.13 yards per carry.
The senior has displayed his ability to impact the passing game through three games. Carnell has 9 receptions for 131 receiving yards on the season. As middle linebacker he has 33 total tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
Coaches corner
“Carnell is a really unique athlete that is versatile,” said Clarksville High Head Coach Isaac Shelby. “The other kids on our team follow his lead, and he is really taking that responsibility head on.
“What makes him such a special player is the fact that he is so smart. He processes things in games and practices way faster than other guys.”
Clarksville High will look to move to .500 on the season as they face Dickson County Friday, Aug. 9, with kickoff at 7 p.m.
As for Carnell, he is undecided where he’ll be attending college, but he does plan on playing football at the next level. In addition, he expects to study human health and performance.
