CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – State Rep. Curtis Johnson, R-Clarksville, has announced he will seek reelection in 2022.
“I am excited to seek reelection so I can continue serving as the voice of our community in the Tennessee House of Representatives,” Johnson said in a news release. “Montgomery County and Tennessee continue to thrive under conservative leadership; we have kept government small by reducing burdensome regulations on businesses, and we have responsibly managed taxpayer dollars through strategic investments as part of our budgetary process, allowing us to save for our future, which remains bright.”
For 18 years, Johnson has represented House District 68, which covers eastern and southern Montgomery County, including Sango and the east side of Clarksville.
Johnson currently serves as Deputy Speaker and Chairman of the House Select Committee on Ethics.
He has received both the National Federation of Independent Businesses Guardian of Small Business Award and the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce’s Champion of Commerce Award. His leadership has resulted in the creation of more than 12,000 new private-sector jobs in Montgomery County during his tenure, according to the news release. The county has also experienced 37 percent job growth since Johnson was first elected in 2004.
“Small businesses are the backbone of our local and statewide economies, and we must continue to stand with them,” said Johnson. “Because of Tennessee’s low tax structure, we’ve created environments where businesses thrive and create jobs. I will never stop fighting to preserve the fiscally conservative policies that have made us a national economic leader.”
Johnson served as a member of former Speaker Beth Harwell’s task force on opioid abuse, working extensively with task force members to provide comprehensive solutions that continue to address the opioid scourge in Tennessee. Much of the panel’s work was later incorporated into former Gov. Bill Haslam’s Tennessee Together plan, which passed in 2018 and has since significantly reduced overprescribing, as well as the number of prescription opioids available in communities, the release said.
“It is imperative that Tennessee continues to uphold the conservative reforms that have helped us see such remarkable progress, both economically and educationally, over the last several years. I will continue to serve as a strong conservative voice for Montgomery County in the House, and I will always seek input from our citizens as we consider policies that will impact their lives. I appreciate your continued support and prayers, and I humbly ask for your vote once again in 2022,” Johnson said.
Election Day is Nov. 8, 2022.
Johnson is also a member of the House Commerce, House Insurance, and House State Government Committees, as well as the House Business & Utilities and Public Service Subcommittees. Johnson can be reached by email at Rep.Curtis.Johnson@capitol.tn.gov or by calling 615-741-4341.
