CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – William “Bill” Cody has announced his candidacy for City Council, Ward 2.
Cody has been a resident of north Clarksville for over 10 years. He is a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and hold a master’s degree from Austin Peay State University, where he served in student government. He grew up in Nashville and said he has seen firsthand what problems rapid growth can do to a city.
He said he is running because he believes the city is spending money it does not have. “I believe the firefighters deserve equal pay but not at the expense of taxpayers. … If elected I will go through each line of each and every department and reduce the wasteful spending to see that our tax dollars is spent efficiently and honestly only then can our city operate properly.
“Growth is important to any city, but proper growth is needed. Our infrastructure is woefully behind our growth. If we desire to attract say 5,000 more people, we must expect another 10,000 more cars on streets that can hardly handle the traffic flow here already.
“Clarksville has a need for affordable housing, not more parks. The city bought the speedway just to widen Needmore Road I propose building affordable housing on the remainder of the property and not placing something else there.”
