Close to 600 American flags were properly destroyed in a dignified manner by burning,, in a ceremony on Flag Day in Montgomery County.
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Montgomery County Veterans Service Organization (MCVSO), along with American Legion Post 289, held their annual Flag Day Retirement Ceremony Monday, June 14, Flag Day, at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4895 in Clarksville.
Close to 600 worn, damaged, and non-serviceable American and Tennessee state flags were properly destroyed, by burning in a dignified manner at the ceremony. The event takes place each year on June 14, which is the date the U.S. flag was chartered by Congress in 1777.

Firefighters from Clarksville Fire Rescue, Station #3, were on site as a safety precaution and to assist.
Damaged or worn flags may be dropped off between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday at the Veterans Service Organization office, 350 Pageant Lane, Suite 405, in Veterans Plaza.
