CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – County commissioners voted Monday on two budget amendments from Clarksville-Montgomery County School System, one of which contained a hotly debated pay raise for CMCSS Director of Schools Millard House.

The original budget proposal came before the County Commission last month, when commissioners passed an amendment to send the proposal back the School Board. School Board members voted to split the original proposal into two parts, sections A and B.

Section A (Res. 21-5-6) contained various budget increases, including a pay increase for teachers and maintenance staff, while Section B (Res. 21-5-7) focused solely on budget increases for the director’s office and salary.

Section A passed unanimously, while Section B failed 9-10. District 17 Commissioner Chris Rasnic was absent.

“This separation of the school budget has been quite the embarrassment, and I suggest that, next year, we don’t ask the school system to second guess what they’ve been doing all these years,” said Prichard. “Our job is not to establish the worth and value of any individual within the school system. I am very upset with this.”
