CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Clarksville Rotary Club is showing its support for a local Girl Scout troop with a project they are planning at Dunbar Cave State Park. The organization made a recent donation of $6,000 to Senior Girl Scout Troop 2434.

Dorothy Baynham is the troop leader for the six Senior Girl Scouts who make up the troop, and talked about the project the girls will be undertaking later in April.

“They are going to be building a platform inside Dunbar Cave to help alleviate the erosion that is found in the cave room with the pictographs,” Baynham said.

Dunbar Cave Park Ranger Adam Neblett said the timing was perfect because there was a need for the protection of the area near the cave drawings and the Girl Scouts approached them wanting to do a project.

“Once this is completed, it will not only help us to protect this resource, but it will also give the public a better experience in the cave as well,” Neblett said.

President of the Clarksville Rotary Club Kimberly Wiggins, who is a former Girl Scout herself, said when Rotary found out about the project the Girl Scouts were planning at the cave, they wanted to do what they could to help.

“To find out that the Girl Scouts were going to take on that project made it even more meaningful. It means so much to us to see our young folks get out there and get their hands involved. I just think it is so fantastic, so why wouldn’t we spend the time and the money to support our Girl Scouts,” Wiggins said.
