NASHVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) will partner with local law enforcement in a new safety initiative, “Operation Impact 24,” beginning Friday, March 12.

According to THP spokesman Wes Moster, the goal of the operation is to promote safe driving behaviors and increase the visibility of law enforcement in high traffic areas along the interstate route.

Officers involved in the operation will focus on distracted driving, hands-free, seatbelt and hazardous moving violations.

“Our goal is to prevent injury and fatal crashes,” said THP Colonel Matt Perry in a press release. “We are asking for all drivers to join us to make this goal a reality. Together we are more effective.”

Troopers will be be joined by other law enforcement officers along I-24 from the Kentucky/Tennessee state line to the Tennessee/Georgia border in Hamilton County.

A marked THP semi will be used by troopers to get gain a vantage point on commercial vehicle and hands-free violations. Troopers in the semi will report violations to nearby participating officers.

Operation Impact 24 will continue throughout Friday, March 12 until 11:59 p.m.
