Clarksville, Tennessee (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Faye Hobson is a long-time resident of Clarksville in the Bluegrass Downs subdivision and is also a candidate for Clarksville City Council in Ward 8 where she resides.
Hobson recently took on a couple of tasks she saw needed attention in Ward 8. One was working with the Clarksville Street Department to help replace streetlights that were out in the area and what became a personal job, replacing the Bluegrass Downs subdivision sign.
When it came to streetlights, Hobson said she had spoken with many of her neighbors and the number of lights, around 40 that were out or malfunctioning, was a major issue.
She praised the Clarksville Street Department for their response, saying when she called the street department, they sent people out right away to fix the lights.

For the Bluegrass Downs sign, Hobson says the sign at the entrance to the subdivision was made of wood adding it was rotting and termites were eating through it.
There is also a little bit of history behind the sign. The first four streets that were built in the subdivision were named after famous race horses, Secretariat, Man O’ War, Whirlaway and Alysheba.
According to Hobson you couldn’t identify that there was a horse on the sign and several letters were missing. She said her family moved in the subdivision in 2005 so she believes the sign was placed there a year or so before that.
Hobson said she put her own money into its repair. “I paid for the sign because I wanted to beautify the neighborhood. I care, it’s my neighborhood and I wanted to do something about the sign,” said Hobson.
The sign itself cost around $1,400, the flowers and rocks at the base of the sign were about another $300. “I would say all together when it was all said and done, it was almost $2,000 for everything we did for the sign,” Hobson said.
“Bluegrass Downs is a great neighborhood and the people are great, we take care of each other, we look out for each other, and they just want to know that somebody cares,” Hobson said.
