CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is having a BBQ lunch fundraiser this Friday, July 17 to raise money for a local businessman who was seriously injured in a kitchen fire.
The Whole Hog BBQ fundraiser with Gray Smoke BBQ will benefits Duane Gray, owner of Gray Smoke BBQ. On May 11, Gray’s Smoke reported on their Facebook page, that Duane Gray and his son, Chase, were injured when oil exploded while they were cooking.
Duane had third degree burns on his hand, arm and second-degree burns on his face. He’s had to go several procedures at Vanderbilt University’s Regional Burn Unit.
The business was closed for several weeks and reopened to the community in late June.

“Gray Smoke and Duane Gray has been a big supporter of law enforcement,” said Sandra Brandon, public information officer for MCSO. “He came out during the Kirby Wallace manhunt and during COVID-19 lockdowns to feed law enforcement at no cost. He was severely burned and out of work for awhile. We’d like to pay him back for his kindness by holding a fundraiser for him.”
The tickets are $10 and include BBQ, bread, coleslaw, chips, dessert and water.
Free group delivery is available and must be pre-ordered by Wednesday, July 15.
Individual plate orders can be pre-ordered and picked up at The Montgomery County Conservation Club located at 1182 Seven Mile Ferry Road or downtown Clarksville at the Grays Smoke food truck.
