Hopkinsvile, KY. (CLARKSVILLENOW) –The Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library (HCCPL) and the Boys & Girls Club of Hopkinsville are teaming up to make face mask extenders for those in the community considered essential, during the COVID-19 pandemic.

HCCPL Operations Director, Tiffany Luna, obtained a template for the mask extenders and started printing the plastic items with the libraries 3D printer last week. A post on social media Monday, immediately created a buzz and organizations began contacting HCCPL Executive Director, DeeAnna Sova asking for extenders for their staff.

“The requests grew quickly when they shared the information on social media”, stated Mrs. Sova. “Being able to give back to our community, especially health related organizations and those considered essential employees that are keeping our community going, is so important to us. The community is very supportive to the library and we are glad we have the ability to provide this small service.”

The mask extenders are designed for masks that fit over the ear. The extender provides relief for the wearer’s ears, as the mask loops fit on the extender. The demand grew so quickly, DeeAnna contacted Boys & Girls Club of Hopkinsville Executive Director, Terrence Davis, and asked if he would like to work together to keep up with the need. Terrence was on board immediately, “This community does a lot for The Boys & Girls Club. We are honored to return the favor”, shared Terrence.

If there are essential businesses, either in the healthcare industry or other frontline essential organizations, that would benefit from these mask extenders, please email director@hccpl.org and they will be glad to provide this small token of our appreciation.

The Library continues to have many digital services available for free, such as reading apps, Overdrive and Libby, https://hccpl.org/downloads/ebooks-eaudiobooks/. Databases and reference resources are available through https://hccpl.org/databases-2/. These are great on-line options, particularly for students. HCCPL will continue to provide free WIFI, 24/7, available in the immediate area surrounding the outside of the library. There are also various “to-go” packets that the library will continue to share with the community during their closure.

For additional information, contact DeeAnna Sova, Executive Director, at director@hccpl.org. Updates regarding Library services will be shared on our website hccpl.org and on the Library’s social media pages.
