CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Clarksville Area YMCA has announced they will be closing their doors temporarily beginning March 17 at 8:00pm.
In a statement from Dan Dummermuth, President and CEO, YMCA of Middle Tennessee:
“We anticipate this closure will last at least two weeks, but will adapt our plans based on the best and latest guidance from the CDC and local public health officials.
We arrived at this difficult decision based on the latest CDC guidance and in consultation with local public health officials. As a nonprofit community service organization, the Y’s top priority will always be your health, and the health of our community. Our goal with this temporary closure is to do our part in trying to limit the spread of COVID-19 in our community before it threatens to overwhelm our public health system.”
The YMCA often has a variety of patrons at their facilities, from young children to seniors. With so many of the higher risk people in the facility, the decision to close was even more apparent.
“Every small step we take now to reduce spread can have a dramatic positive impact on our community’s health in the days and weeks to come,” said Dummermuth.
Digital Wellness Options Available
Even while their doors are closed, the YMCA will continue to serve as a resource for those seeking wellness. The website will have free wellness resources including group fitness classes from Les Mills and the national YMCA 360 initiative, workout routines, and much more.
For those patrons who may be experiencing financial hardship during the current uncertainty, the YMCA will offer their membership financial assistance through the Open Doors program.
