MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Tenn (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office representatives visited CMCSS schools today to read stories for students as part of Read Across America Day

Read Across America Day is held each year on March 2, the birthday of celebrated children’s author Dr. Seuss, and kicks off Read Across America Week. Local schools celebrate by allowing students time to read together. some students even dress as their favorite Dr. Seuss characters

Montgomery County Sheriff John Fuson, along with MCSO employees Lt. Carlos Silva, Deputy Jonas Jackson, Deputy Eddie Mitchell, SRO Dan Atkins, Suzy Shepherd and David Wood, joined in on the fun, visiting Clarksville-Montgomery County elementary schools and reading to students in the classroom. Student’s took time off from their regular studies to enjoy classics like ‘Green Eggs and Ham,’ ‘The Lorax’ and ‘The Cat in the Hat.’

Woodlawn Elementary presented their guests with certificates, thanking them for spending time with the students.

Read Across America is an initiative by the National Education Association encouraging students to enjoy reading. The program offers a variety of resources, including an extensive list of recommended books, literacy tools, advice for parents and ways to acquire free books for both home and the classroom.
