Restaurant Review by Pamela Holz, Realtor with Reliant Realty
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Located on Madison Street about a block east of Kroger, Cumberland Grille seems nestled into the landscape. The feeling in the restaurant is similar. Walking in, you get the feeling that Cumberland Grille has been comfortably worn in by many visitors.
We went ahead and ordered Mushrooms ($5.00) for an appetizer. They arrived quickly and deliciously. Freshly battered and deep fried, these mushrooms did not just get poured into the fryer out of a bag from the freezer. The Tiger Sauce was a not too spicy blend of horseradish and mayonnaise.
Looking over the menu, my eye was caught by the Cumberland Hamburger. It comes with the claim, “It’s been declared the best in town!” With a declaration like that, I knew immediately that I had to give it a try, going with the “Load it up” option, adding bacon, grilled onions, mushrooms, green peppers and cheese ($9.50). My foodie friend ordered the Deli Croissant with Chicken Salad ($8.00). While we waited for our food to arrive, we were given a basket of fresh rolls and a whipped spread. (Personally, I always prefer real butter, but different people have different preferences.)
Our server was politely attentive and courteous, and we did not wait long for our food. The Deli Croissant was light and flaky, but curiously, the chicken salad was dry… not that there was not enough dressing, but that the meat itself was not very moist. The flavor was good, however, and my friend did enjoy his sandwich.
My burger, along with the side of grilled vegetables, arrived with a “hot off the grill” aroma, which is always a good thing in my book. Skeptical as to the “best in town” claim, I took a bite… and another… and another. Cooked perfectly, this was a luscious combination of juicy and greasy burger, with a crispy bacon-onion-mushroom-pepper-cheesy finish. With a wonderful grill flavor permeating through each bite, the grilled vegetables didn’t disappoint, either.
Cumberland Grille offers a variety of options: Steaks, Chicken, Seafood & Pasta, Salads and Soups, plus items like Liver and Onions ($7.50), Cat’s Meow—fried or grilled catfish ($8.00), Philly Southern Style, or a Reuben ($8.00).
A slice of homemade pie ($4.00) is one of several sweet options to end your meal, or to just come in and enjoy with a cup of coffee. With Cumberland Grille’s comfortable atmosphere, the feeling is that you would be very welcome to do just that.
