DICKSON COUNTY, Tenn (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Cumberland Furnace Fire Department was recognized by the American Red Cross on Saturday, September 28 for their life saving efforts during a recent flash flooding incident in the area.

Nine people were rescued in the Cumberland Furnace area, including two Red Cross volunteers who were on their way to open a Red Cross shelter in Maury County.

GPS had taken the volunteers into an unfamiliar area, and the roadway was quickly overcome with water.

Members of the Cumberland Furnace Fire Department located the Red Cross Vehicle and rescued the volunteers.

Other rescues were conducted in the Cumberland Furnace area that evening by other departments and agencies in mutual aid. Dickson Emergency Management, Dickson Fire and Rescue, Dickson EMS and Dickson City Fire Department participated in rescue efforts.

The American Red Cross showed their appreciation for these departments, and their heroic actions on that evening, by presenting them with lifesaving tickets and a dinner.
