CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Clarksville Police are asking the public’s assistance to battle the recent wave of motor vehicle burglaries and thefts. Based on surveillance footage, investigation, and arrest juveniles are large contributors to these crimes.
Most crimes have occurred between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m.
Since June 1, there have been over 150 vehicle burglaries and 80 motor vehicle thefts. Items stolen from vehicles include money, electronic equipment, and firearms among other things.
Over 50 juvenile petitions were filed in June for seven juveniles regarding vehicle burglaries and motor vehicle thefts. In addition, 74 juveniles have been charged for a variety of other crimes in June.

In an effort to reduce juvenile related crimes, the police department will be implementing a stronger enforcement of curfew violations.
Public assistance is necessary in this endeavor to reduce crime. Notify law enforcement through 911 when minors are believed to be in violation. The city ordinance Sec 10-205 – Curfew for Minors states:
It shall be unlawful for any minor fifteen (15) years of age and younger to loiter, idle, wander, stroll, or play in or upon the public streets, highways, roads, alleys, parks, playgrounds, or other public grounds, public places or public buildings, places of amusement and entertainment, vacant lots, or other unsupervised places between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. on the following day. Furthermore, it shall be unlawful for any minor over the age of fifteen (15) years, but under the age of eighteen (18) years, to loiter, idle, wander, stroll, or play in or upon the public streets, highways, roads, alleys, parks, playgrounds or other public grounds, public places or other public buildings, places of amusement and entertainment, vacant lots, or other unsupervised places between the hours of 1:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.
It is provided, however, that the provisions of this section shall not apply to a minor accompanied by his parent, guardian, or other adult person having the care and custody of the minor, or where the minor is upon an emergency errand or legitimate business directed or authorized by his parent, guardian, or other adult person having the care and custody of the minor, or if the minor is married or is a member of the armed services.
