Friday Mornings in May: April Showers Brought May Flowers! May 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 | Explorers’ Landing Drop-in between 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Free with paid admission or membership | Ages 2-5, with an adult caretaker
Your little ones will get hands-on as they explore the Flower Garden Sensory Bin with kid-sized and kid-friendly tools. Your explorer can use a shovel to dig into the “soil.” They can use the trowel to move the soil into planters; what happens if they put the soil into a planter with a hole in the bottom? They can plant a plastic flower or move the small rocks around using giant tweezers. What’s hiding underneath the soil? Plus, make a simple flowering tree craft to take home.
Hands-on Activities: Junior Inventors Saturday, May 4 & 18 | Explorers’ Landing Drop-in between 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Free with paid admission or membership | Grades K-6th, with an adult caretaker
What do television, water skis, popsicles, earmuffs, and trampolines all have in common? They were all invented by kids! May is National Inventors Month, an event that celebrates invention and creativity. The Museum provides the materials and supplies; you bring the imagination! Families will work as a team to design and create the prototype of an invention. Have a blast as a family and utilize your creative problem-solving skills! Also, examine and touch a few historic inventions from our Education Collection.
Sunday Family Fun Learning Day: Who is that? Sunday, May 19 | Family Art Studio Drop-in between 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Free with paid admission or membership | All ages welcome
Although all of our fingerprints are different, it is the face that we almost always use to identify someone. This Sunday we will be experimenting with assorted materials that will be used to create a face: clay, fabric, paper, magazine cutouts, yarn, and other items will be included in this program.
Visit the exhibit 15 over 50: A Women’s History Month Exhibition. Find the painting, Age of Innocence, by Lisa Jennings. What is missing from the drawing of the young girl’s head? What are some possible reasons the artist left this out? Enjoy a faces scavenger hunt with your family. Take a selfie to remember your day at the Customs House Museum & Cultural Center and tag us on social media.
