CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Montgomery County Animal Care and Control (MCAC) will be closed for the remainder of the day Feb. 21 due to a malfunction with the heating system.

The heat in several of the kennels was not working Wednesday, according to count spokesperson Michelle Newell. The issue was addressed yesterday afternoon, however, the thermostat for the side of the building that heats and cools the puppy and cat rooms malfunctioned sometime in the evening, causing the heat to run constantly.

As a result, the animals suffered from heat exhaustion and had to be removed from the area. The cats and puppies were transferred into portable carriers that are currently in the break room and hallways as of Thursday morning.

Newell said the HVAC system will be assessed Thursday afternoon so the department can hopefully resume services Friday. Updates will be shared as they become available.

“The staff did an amazing job getting all of the animals out quickly into carriers so they could cool off and get fresh water. They were amazing,” MCAC Director Dave Kaske said.
