CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A Springfield man accused of carjacking a man who tried to help him and then running him over with his own vehicle has been arrested and indicted by a grand jury in Montgomery County.

Jonathan Trent Rippie, 20, has been charged with attempted first degree murder, carjacking, aggravated robbery, and tampering with evidence.

According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), Rippie was initially taken into custody in Robertson County on July 19 on unrelated charges. He has now been charged in Montgomery County in connection to the carjacking that occurred July 16 on Zinc Plant Rd.

The victim saw Rippie walking on the side of the road and offered him a ride. When the victim stopped at a friend’s house and got out of his vehicle (1995 Ford Explorer), Rippie moved to the driver’s seat. The victim tried to stop him and Rippie hit him three times with the vehicle, ultimately driving over him.

Rippie’s indictment accuses him of intentionally trying to run over the victim with the stolen vehicle and then trying to hide or destroy the SUV used in the crime.

Rippie’s bond was set at $1,060,000.
