CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The drop boxes for old and unused medicine found at the Clarksville Police Department’s three locations have taken in almost 750 pounds of medications for 2018.
These drop boxes help to reduce the potential for medicine abuse and the negative impact on the environment by improper disposal, and they serve as another tool to help combat opioids. They are available between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. at three different CPD locations: 135 Commerce Street, 211 Cunningham Lane, and 1584 Vista Lane.
Acceptable items for disposal include:
Prescription medications
All over-the-counter medications
Pet medications
Medicated Ointment, lotions, or drops
Liquid Medications in leak proof containers
Inhalers
Pills in any packaging, including glass, plastic container, zip bags, or foil
Items not accepted include:
Illegal drugs or narcotics
Needles or syringes with needles
Blood sugar equipment
Thermometers
IV bags
Bloody or infectious waste
Personal care products (shampoos, lotions, etc.)
If you utilize any of these medicine drop boxes, you are asked to keep the medication in the original container, if possible. Be sure to cross out the name and address on the container; however, do not cross out the name of the medication.
